It may be found in natural deposits or it could be a refined product called pitch. Pitch is derived from petroleum, coal, plants and tar or it is manufactured. Asphalt is primarily used in road constructions as a binder or glue that is mixed with aggregate particles such as sand, gravel, recycled concrete and crushed stones to create asphalt concrete. The other main uses of asphalt include bituminous waterproofing systems that are designed to protect the commercial and residential buildings from water.
