Description : Engineering careers. Engineering disciplines. Engineering problem solving. Engineering problem-solving tools. Technical communications.
Description : This book provides an essential guide for the successful operation of a contract let under the NEC Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC).It includes a brief history of the development of the NEC family of contracts, detailed advice on contract strategy and an outline of the main clauses and procedures of the ECC. It discusses the experience of users from all parts of the industry and, most importantly, takes readers through the changes necessary for the effective and efficient operation of the ECC. This book covers NEC2 only.
Description : The uses of ultrasound in chemistry are examined from a laboratory-oriented viewpoint in this text. The author analyzes the types of ultrasonic equipment available and describes the correct assembly of laboratory apparatus for particular tasks.
Description : If there are two phrases we have come to know very well, they are 'environmental awareness' and 'credit crunch'. The world is looking for ways to decrease the emission of CO2 into the atmosphere, without incurring major costs in doing so. By increasing efficiencies up to about 90 per cent using well-established and mature technologies, cogeneration represents the best option for short-term reductions in CO2 emission levels. The ability to maximise revenue streams by taking advantage of price fluctuations in the cost of energy supply, and ensuring the ability to supply power regardless of what is happening on the grid, are powerful incentives to use cogeneration. The collapses of the grid networks in North America and Italy in 2003 were a stark reminder of what can happen if there is over-reliance on the grid network. Cogeneration makes sense economically, environmentally and operationally.
Description : Explains the process by which the US government selects architect-engineering firms to perform design services for it, and guides the prospective contractor through the maze of requirements from finding the announcement of available contracts, almost (but not quite) to the Senate subcommittee hearings on graft. Covers how to go after a job, the proposals and negotiations leading to getting it, the administration and recording requirements after the contract is awarded, and the requirements when the project is completed. Updated to the 1995 versions of the regulations. Annotation copyright by Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
Description : The FIDIC Conditions of Contract for Construction and the Conditions of Contract for Plant and Design-Build (known as the 1999 Red Book and the 1999 Yellow Book) were first published in 1999 and have been used for a large number of contracts around the world. During 2005, FIDIC and the multilateral development banks cooperated to publish the MDB Harmonised Conditions of Contract for Construction. This book is a revised and extended edition of the authors earlier guides.
Description : The Coastal Engineering Research Center's (CERC's) Field Research Facility (FRF) at Duck, N.C., is a 561-m-(1,840-ft- ) long pier and laboratory dedicated to basic and applied coastal research. This report, which describes the facility, the instrumentation and data being collected, and the local area, is designed to be used as an aid in planning experiments to be conducted at the facility. Use of the FRF by coastal researchers is encouraged. (Author).
